Liftoff: If you had to describe Proton Theatre in one sentence, what would you say about yourselves?
Proton Theatre/ Zsófia Csató, Production Manager:
A virtual company founded in 2009 by Kornél Mundruczó, film and theatre director and Dóra Büki, theatre producer. I joined the team in 2012, first as a production assistant, then as a production coordinator and now as a production manager.
A Proton Theatre has aimed from the outset to provide a professional structure for our independently produced plays and projects, while preserving maximum artistic freedom. However, life is never easy as an independent, and we are fortunately helped in this by our permanent co-production partners, the Budapest Trafó House of Contemporary Art, abroad, including the Vienna Festival Weeks, the Berlin HAU Hebbel am Ufer or the Dresden HELLERAU.
L: What are the most interesting recent events?
P: We turned 10 this year. We started the season with a premiere. As part of Germany's largest festival, the Ruhrtriennale, we presented a premiere based on György Ligeti's Requiem, directed by Kornél Mundruczó Evolution our predecessor, which is a genre between a classical music concert and a classical theatre evening.
After that It's hard to be a god we were in Pilsen, and then Transparent life we opened the MESS International Theatre Festival in Sarajevo on 28 September, from where we went straight to the FIT Festival in Lugano.
L: What do you recommend for people who have not yet seen your performances?
P: The big commitment this year was to The ice sold out in 24 hours, so we are planning more performances throughout the season. In addition, The Life of Seems will be shown at home at the Trafo on 17 and 18 December. In addition, the film "The Life of a Man" directed by János Szemenyei Following Vackor our family musical in the repertoire of the Madách Theatre. L: Since September, the management of the Proton Theatre has been based in the Liftoff Coworking office. Why did you choose us?
